KUALA LUMPUR, April 16 (Bernama) -- The 'Bingkisan Aidilfitri' Programme aims to help 650 former national athletes in need, in appreciation of their services for bringing glory to the country.
Organised by the Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation (YaPEIM) together with the Malaysian Muslim Consumers Association (PPIM), a total of RM65,000 is allocated for the programme which will be translated into cash assistance and Raya biscuits.
YaPEIM Board of Trustees chairman Datuk Mohd Redza Shah Abdul Wahid said the aid would be distributed through two sessions with the first session involving 150 recipients in Kuala Lumpur, while the second session was for recipients outside Kuala Lumpur.
He said this at a press conference after the Bingkisan Aidilfitri Ceremony for Former National Athletes here today.
The initiative also has the cooperation of the National Athletes Welfare Foundation (YAKEB) which acts as the organiser to gather former national athletes in need.
Meanwhile, former national lawn bowls athlete, Halimah Hassan, 60, was grateful that she was still remembered and appreciated despite having retired in 2014.
Former national archer Siti Aisah Sudin, 56, called on former athletes who have not joined YAKEB to do so, so that their welfare will be taken care of, apart from not missing out on various activities planned by the foundation.
