A group of NGOs today held a protest in Shah Alam in a preemptive move against two controversial events from being held in Selangor.
According to the BNBBC website, The groups said they were concerned that the cancelled "Better Beer Festival 2017" and the purported "White Party Bangkok" would be held in the state after it was banned in Kuala Lumpur.
The groups also submitted a petition to the Selangor palace to urge the ruler to take action.
"Selangor citizens humbly ask the sultan to forbid this," said Nazilah Idris, the spokesperson for the 25 groups, according to Bernama.
The group had handed in the petition at Istana Bukit Kayangan before protesting outside the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque.
Among the NGOs in attendance were Pekida, Bureau of Civil Society Complaints (Bams), Muslim Consumers Association (PPIM) and Perkasa.
Reports also indicated that about 500 people led by Selangor PAS Youth held another protest at the same mosque over the same issue.
Previously, DBKL had rejected the application from the Better Beer Festival to be held in Publika Mall on Oct 6, citing political sensitivities.
The inspector-general of police (IGP) Mohamad Fuzi Harun (photo) had cited security reasons for the police's opposition to the event.
