KUALA LUMPUR: Muslim Consumers Association of Malaysia (PPIM) has handed over 30 closed-circuit television (CCTV) video footages to the police to assist in their probe into the deadly fire at Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah tahfiz school.
PPIM's office building is located next to the school at Jalan Keramat Hujung here.
Hoping the footages were able to give clues on the incident, its president Datuk Nadzim Johan said CCTV lens from PPIM building covered views of the entrance and back of the school.
"We have 30 CCTVs and we can see the entrance and the back of the school.
"We gave the recordings to the police yesterday," he said at a press conference at PPIM's compound.
When asked what was recorded on the CCTV, Nadzim said there was a group of more than 10 people seen loitering around the area at 7pm on Wednesday.
However, he said PPIM could not confirm whether the group was involved in the fire outbreak on Thursday morning.
Addressing a rumour that the blaze could have been aimed at PPIM, Nadzim could not confirm about it.
"We do not know but if it is really for revenge, they must be blind, they sent it to the wrong place.
"If there was any possible sabotage, we will definitely report it to the police and follow the law.
"We leave it to the police and Fire and Rescue Department to investigate," he said.
Nadzim said he was saddened by the fire and hoped that the authorities and society would take more proactive actions to ensure the safety and welfare of tahfiz students and institutions.
"Yes, this incident has been fated but we cannot blame fate for our own recklessness. These recklessness lead to tragedies.
"Say no to this, we have to take action. There are 10,000 tahfiz schools natiowide, we cannot let this continue and lead to more deaths," he said
