Hudud: PPIM urges non-Muslims to not easily get `worked up'

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Muslim Consumer Association (PPIM) today called on non-Muslims in the country to not easily get "worked up" on the move by PAS to implement hudud laws in Kelantan.
Its chief activist Datuk Nadzim Johan said all parties should sit together to discuss the issue in a mature manner to prevent any misunderstanding on the main purpose of the move.
"I do not see any benefit in we quarrelling among ourselves because it will only cause the country to be split. It (hudud) has not even been implemented yet, we do not know yet what it effect will be on society.
"All quarters must keep an open mind on this (hudud) so that it can be resolved in an acceptable way," he told a press conference here today.
PAS through its MPs plans to move a Private Members Bill in Parliament to seek federal approval to implement the Islamic laws in Kelantan.
However, its partners in the Pakatan Rakyat notably the DAP and various non-Muslim quarters and parties, including MCA and Gerakan, component parties of the Barisan Nasional, which is in power at the Federal level, have objected to the move. – Bernama
