Call For Special Portfolio For NGOs
KUALA LUMPUR, May 16 (Bernama) -- Five non-governmental organisations
(NGOs)today called on a special portfolio be set up under the Prime Minister's
Department to tackle issues concerning NGOs in the country.
The call was made by Young Journalists Club (KWMM), Malaysian Muslim
Consumers Association (PPIM), Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (ISMA), Malaysian
Ayahanda Consultative Council and The Malay Army Veterans Association (PVTM).
KWMM president Dzulkarnain Taib said recent scenarios saw that NGOs had
played major roles in ensuring success for government transformation programme
at all levels.
He said many NGOs in the country were established in a bid to help the
government but most of them were not active in organising activities due to
lack of fund.
"These NGOs spent most of their time and efforts to raise funds.
If only the government can help them in that area, they will have more time to
organise their activities and programmes," he told a press conference here
today.
Meanwhile, the five NGOs also commended the new Cabinet line-up
announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak yesterday.
PPIM executive secretary Datuk Nadzim Johan said it was hoped that the
new leadership line-up would be more people-friendly, especially in reaching
out and listening to people's problems without much bureaucratic hassles.
