1816) BERNAMA - Jakim Should Issue Edict On Future Concerts

KUALA LUMPUR, March 21 (Bernama) -- The Muslim Consumers Association of Malaysia (PPIM) has urged the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) to issue a decree on the organisation of concerts in the future.

PPIM chief activist Datuk Nadzim Johan said the death of six spectators at the Future Music Festival Asia 2014 at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil as a result of drug-taking last Friday must be viewed seriously as it could tarnish the image of Malaysia, which was well-known as a leader of various world Islamic issues.

"Jakim and the government must carry out a comprehensive study from the social and moral aspects and a religious impact study related to the holding of such concerts, which could impair the creation of a national human capital," he told a media conference here today.

Meanwhile he also urged the Tourism and Culture Ministry to scrutinise the entries of all international artistes in such concerts, which despite profiting the tourism sector, also contributed a negative impact to youths.

Nadzim said the family institution should also play an important role to provide the right method to educate and instil in their children the dangers of drug-abuse.

He said PPIM would send an open letter to Jakim and the ministry soon to appeal to them to quickly study and outline the best method to prevent a repeat of the incident.
