At mass anti-Israel rally, Muslims told to emulate Hamas militant wing
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 10 — Hundreds of pro-Gaza supporters attended an anti-Israel mass rally organised by Muslim NGOs today, where they were told to emulate the Hamas militant wing Al-Qassam Brigade.
The event, which starts off a month-long campaign of boycott and rallies called Bulan Kemarahan Ummah (The Month of Ummah’s Wrath), uses the slogan “We Are All Al-Qassam” as it called on Muslims nationwide to express their anger.
“We are all soldiers of Al-Qassam. Although we don’t launch any missiles, I hope our boycott, our campaign, our pressure this whole month will help to achieve our objective,” said Abdullah Zaik Abd Rahman, the executive chairman of Aman Palestin, a pro-Palestine NGO that headed the gathering. He then told the crowd to raise the flags of Palestine, Hamas, and the brigade everywhere in support of them.
“Let us insult Israel … Let us put Israel flags in our toilets, in public toilets. We can express our hatred until we give a clear message to Israel,” said Abdullah, who is also the president of Islamist group Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma).
“We are all agents to Al-Qassam. We are all agents of jihad,” said Ibrahim Hassan, the president of Muslim youth group Pembina in his speech, using the Arabic word for “holy struggle”.
Members of Aman Palestin were also wearing black t-shirts with the words” We Are All Qassam” and urged those updating the event on social media to use the hashtag #WeAreAllalQassam.
Some in the crowd, including children, also held up various placards supporting the Hamas wing.
Later, the crowd recited an oath for Gaza, which also included their utmost support for the Al-Qassam Brigade and Hamas, and the militant wing was described as “true heroes” afterwards.
To launch the month-long campaign, dozens of young men in black with green Al-Qassam headbands around their forehead led a military march while bringing flags of Palestine and the brigade.
Instead, he insisted that the money will go to the tens of thousands of victims of the military offensive in Gaza.
Besides Aman Palestin, Isma and Pembina, the campaign was also supported by Malaysian Muslim Consumers Association (PPIM), Perkasa and Pembela, among others.
The month-long campaign will include rallies and “peaceful boycott” of brands such as McDonald’s, Starbucks and HSBC.
The 20,000- strong Al-Qassam Brigade was formed in 1992 and has been responsible for numerous suicide bombings killing and wounding hundreds of civilians.
It was named after Izz ad-Din al-Qassam, a Muslim preacher of the Black Hand, an anti-Zionist and anti-British militant organisation, who was killed in 1935.
