KUALA LUMPUR, May 28 (Bernama) — With the theme halal, fresh and cheap, a new supermarket, known as “Pasaraya Lubuk Segar”, opens its first outlet in Ampang Hilir here today.

It is owned by Konsortium Kelab Merdeka Muda Malaysia Sdn Bhd (Kemuda) , which is focusing on efforts to develop bumiputera entrepreneurs and fishermen.

Konsortium Kemuda chief executive officer Noor Azhar Mohamad said the supermarket would be used as a platform for bumiputera youth to venture into the entrepreneurship sector.

“We encourage them to venture into a business with existing demand, like perishable food.

“They can open the Lubuk Segar outlet in their respective areas and the consortium will supply them with the goods,” he told reporters after the launch of the first Lubuk Segar outlet here by the Malaysian Muslim Consumers’ Association (PPIM) president Datuk Nadzim Johan.

He said the price of goods at the Lubuk Segar supermarket was also cheaper as the consortium did not use the service of middlemen.

“We obtain our supply of seafood, like fish, crab and squid directly from fishermen, who are partners in this business,” he added.

He said the consortium also produced its own products, like fish ball and fish floss.

“We are now in the process of opening outlets in Bangi, Shah Alam, Putrajaya, Gombak, Kajang and Wangsa Maju,” he added
