412) EMAIL PILIHAN : Rasulullah & Saintis-tentang lalat

407) Must Read: Newspaper article on Heart Disease

Heart Surgeon Admits Huge Mistake

Without inflammation, cholesterol would not accumulate in walls of blood vessels and cause heart disease
By Dwight Lundell, MD

Part 1 of a 2-part article (see part 2 below)

We physicians with all our training, knowledge and authority often acquire a rather large ego that tends to make it difficult to admit we are wrong.  So, here it is: I freely admit to being wrong. As a heart surgeon with twenty-five years of experience, having performed over 5,000 open-heart surgeries, today is my day to right the wrong with medical and scientific fact.

I trained for many years with other prominent physicians labelled “opinion makers.” Bombarded with scientific literature, and continually attending education seminars, we opinion makers insisted heart disease resulted from the simple fact of elevated blood cholesterol.

The only accepted therapy was prescribing medications to lower cholesterol and a diet that severely restricted fat intake. The latter of course we insisted would lower cholesterol and heart disease. Deviations from these recommendations were considered heresy and could quite possibly result in malpractice.
It Is Not Working!

These recommendations are no longer scientifically or morally defensible. The discovery a few years ago that inflammation in the artery wall is the real cause of heart disease is slowly leading to a paradigm shift in how heart disease and other chronic ailments will be treated.

The long-established dietary recommendations have created epidemics of obesity and diabetes, the consequences of which dwarf any historical plague in terms of mortality, human suffering and dire economic consequences.

Despite the fact that 25% of the population takes expensive statin medications and despite the fact we have reduced the fat content of our diets, more Americans will die this year of heart disease than ever before. Statistics from the American Heart Association show that 75 million Americans currently suffer from heart disease, 20 million have diabetes and 57 million have pre-diabetes. These disorders are affecting increasingly younger people in greater numbers every year.
Simply stated, without inflammation being present in the body, there is no way that cholesterol would accumulate in the walls of the blood vessels and cause heart disease and strokes. Without inflammation, cholesterol would move freely throughout the body as nature intended. It is inflammation that causes cholesterol to become trapped.
Inflammation is not complicated -- it is quite simply your body's natural defence to a foreign invader such as bacteria, toxin or virus. The cycle of inflammation is perfect in how it protects your body from these bacterial and viral invaders. However, if we chronically expose the body to injury by toxins or foods the human body was never designed to process, a condition occurs, that is called chronic inflammation. Chronic inflammation is just as harmful as acute inflammation is beneficial.

What thoughtful person would wilfully expose his own self repeatedly to foods or other substances that are known to cause injury to the body?  Well, smokers perhaps, but at least they made that choice wilfully.

The rest of us have simply followed the recommended mainstream diet that is low in fat and high in polyunsaturated fats and carbohydrates, not knowing we were causing repeated injury to our blood vessels. This repeated injury creates chronic inflammation leading to heart disease, stroke, diabetes and obesity.
Let me repeat that: The injury and inflammation in our blood vessels is caused by the low fat diet that has been recommended for years by mainstream medicine.

What are the biggest culprits of chronic inflammation? Quite simply, they are the overload of simple, highly processed carbohydrates (sugar, flour and all the products made from them) and the excess consumption of omega-6 vegetable oils like soybean, corn and sunflower that are found in many processed foods.

In Part 2 of this two-part article, I’ll discuss which foods cause inflammation, how those foods trigger the inflammatory process, and the foods to eat that will cure inflammation.

Part 2
by Dwight Lundell MD
February 6 2009

Take a moment to visualise rubbing a stiff brush repeatedly over soft skin until it becomes quite red and nearly bleeding.
Let’s say you keep this up several times a day, every day for five years. If you can tolerate this painful brushing, you will have a bleeding, swollen infected area that worsens with each repeated injury. This is a good way to visualise the inflammatory process that could be going on in your body right now.

Regardless of where the inflammatory process occurs, externally or internally, it is the same. I have peered inside thousands upon thousands of arteries. A diseased artery looks as if someone took a brush and scrubbed repeatedly against its wall. Several times a day, everyday, the foods we eat create small injuries compounding into more injuries, causing the body to respond continuously and appropriately with inflammation.

While we savour the tantalising taste of a sweet roll, our bodies respond alarmingly as if a foreign invader arrived to declare war. Foods loaded with sugars and simple carbohydrates, or processed with omega-6 oils for long shelf life have been the mainstay of the American diet for six decades. Unfortunately these foods have been slowly poisoning everyone.

How does eating a simple sweet roll create a cascade of inflammation to make you sick? Imagine spilling syrup on your keyboard and you have a visual of what occurs inside the cell. When we consume simple carbohydrates such as sugar, blood sugar rises rapidly. In response, your pancreas secretes insulin whose primary purpose is to drive sugar into each cell where it is stored for energy.
If the cell is full and does not need glucose, it is rejected to avoid extra sugar gumming up the works. When your full cells reject the extra glucose, blood sugar rises producing more insulin and the glucose converts to stored fat.

What does all this have to do with inflammation? Blood sugar is controlled in a very narrow range. Extra sugar molecules attach to a variety of proteins that in turn injure the blood vessel wall. It is this repeated injury to the blood vessel wall that sets off inflammation. When you spike your blood sugar level several times a day, everyday, it is exactly like taking sandpaper to the inside of your delicate blood vessels.

While you may not be able to see it, rest assured it is there. I saw it in over 5,000 surgical patients spanning 25 years who all shared one common denominator – inflammation in their arteries.

Let us now get back to the sweet roll.
That innocent looking goody not only contains sugars, it is baked in one of many omega-6 oils such as soybean. Chips and fries are soaked in soybean oil; processed foods are manufactured with omega-6 oils for longer shelf life. While omega-6’s are essential – they are part of every cell membrane controlling what goes in and out of the cell – they must be in correct balance with omega-3’s.
If the balance shifts by consuming excessive omega-6, the cell membrane produces chemicals called cytokines that directly cause inflammation.  Today’s mainstream American diet has produced an extreme imbalance of these two fats. The ratio of imbalance ranges from 15:1 to as high as 30:1 in favour of omega-6. That’s a tremendous amount of cytokines causing inflammation. In today’s food environment, a 3:1 ratio would be optimal and healthy.
To make matters worse, the excess weight you are carrying from eating these foods creates overloaded fat cells that pour out large quantities of pro-inflammatory chemicals that add to the injury caused by having high blood sugar. The process that began with a sweet roll turns into a vicious cycle over time that creates heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and finally, Alzheimer’s disease, as the inflammatory process continues unabated.
There is no escaping the fact that the more we consume prepared and processed foods, the more we trip the inflammation switch little by little each day. The human body cannot process, nor was it designed to consume, foods packed with sugars and soaked in omega-6 oils.

There is but one answer to quieting inflammation, and that is to return to foods closer to their natural state. To build muscle, eat more protein. Choose carbohydrates that are very complex such as colourful fruits and vegetables. Cut down or eliminate inflammation-causing omega-6 fats like corn and soybean oil and the processed foods that are made from them. One tablespoon of corn oil contains 7,280mg of omega-6; soybean contains 6,940mg. Instead, use olive oil or butter from grass-fed beef.
Animal fats contain less than 20% omega-6 and are much less likely to cause inflammation than the supposedly healthy oils labelled ‘polyunsaturated.’ Forget the “science” that has been drummed into your head for decades. The science that saturated fat alone causes heart disease is non-existent. The science that saturated fat raises blood cholesterol is also very weak. Since we now know that cholesterol is not the cause of heart disease, the concern about saturated fat is even more absurd today.

The cholesterol theory led to the no-fat, low-fat recommendations that in turn created the very foods now causing an epidemic of inflammation. Mainstream medicine made a terrible mistake when it advised people to avoid saturated fat in favour of foods high in omega-6 fats. We now have an epidemic of arterial inflammation leading to heart disease and other silent killers.

What you can do is choose whole foods your grandmother served and not those your mom turned to as grocery store aisles filled with manufactured foods. By eliminating inflammatory foods and adding essential nutrients from fresh unprocessed foods, you will reverse years of damage in your arteries and throughout your body from
 consuming the typical American diet.

GEMS: Robert Kuok Hock Nien's notes on the past sixty years

Tan Sri Robert Kuok Hock Nien (born 6 October 1923, in Johor Bahru, Johor, is an influential Malaysian Chinese businessman. According to Forbes his net worth is estimated to be around $10 billion on May 2008, making him the richest person in Southeast Asia. He is media shy and discreet; most of his businesses are privately held by him or his family. Apart from a multitude of enterprises in Malaysia, his companies have investments in many countries throughout Asia . His business interests range from sugarcane plantations (Perlis Plantations Bhd), sugar refinery, flour milling, animal feed, oil and mining to finance, hotels, properties, trading and freight and publishing.

Robert Kuok Hock Nien's (Shangri la Group, sugar, and Palm oil)notes on the past sixty years

(On the occasion of Kuok Group’s 60th Anniversary 10 April 2009)

(1)        My brothers and I owe our upbringing completely to Mother. She was steeped in Ru-Jiao –the teachings of Confucius, Mencius, Laozi and other Chinese sages. Ru-Jiao teaches the correct behaviour for a human being on his life on earth. Mother gently, and sometimes strongly, drummed into the minds of her three boys the values of honesty, of never cheating, lying, stealing or envying other people their material wealth or physical attributes.

(2)        Father died on 25 December 1948 night without leaving a will. Following the Japanese surrender, he had re-registered the firm as a sole proprietorship. We went to court to get an appointment as managers, permitting us to continue to manage Tong Seng & Co. The judge said that, as there were two widows, the firm and the estate should be wound up.

(3)        We decide to establish Kuok Brothers Limited. In mid-January 1949, five of us met at a small roundtable in our home in Johore Bahru. Present were my MOTHER, cousin number five HOCK CHIN, cousin number twelve HOCK SENG, my brother HOCK KHEE nicknamed Philip (a.k.a. cousin number seventeen), and myself (a.k.a. cousin number twenty). We sat down and Mother said, “Nien, would you like to start?”I said, “Fine, yes I will start.”To cut the long story short, we got started, and commenced business from a little shop house in Johore Bharu on 1 April 1949.

(4)        As a young man, I thought there was no substitute for hard work and thinking up good, honest business plans and, without respite, pushing them along. There will always be business on earth. Be humble; be straight; don't be crooked; don't take advantage of people. To be a successful businessman, I think you really need to brush all your senses every morning, just as you brush your teeth. I coined the phrase “honing your senses”in business: your vision, hearing, sense of smell, touch and taste. All these senses come in very useful.

(5)        Mother was the captain of our ship. She saw and sensed everything, but being a wise person she didn't interfere. Yet she was the background influence, the glue that bound the Group together. She taught my cousins and my brothers and me never to be greedy, and that in making money one could practise high morality. She stressed that whenever the firm does well it should make donations to the charities operating in our societies. She always kept us focused on the big picture in business. For example: avoid businesses that bring harm, destruction or grief to people. This includes trades like gambling, drugs, arms sales, loan-sharking and prostitution.

(6)        We started as little fish swimming in a bathtub. From there we went to a lake and now we are in the open seas. Today our businesses cover many industries and our operations are worldwide but this would not have been possible without the vision of the founding members, the dedicated contributions and loyalty of our colleagues and employees, and very importantly the strong moral principles espoused by my mother.

(7)        When I hire staff I look for honest, hardworking, intelligent people. When I look candidates in the eye, they must appear very honest to me. I do not look for MBAs or exceptional students. You may hire a brilliant man, summa cum laude, first-class honours, but if his mind is not a fair one or if he has a warped attitude in life, does brilliance really matter?

(8)        Among the first employees were Lau Teo Chin (Ee Wor), Kwok Chin Luang (Ee Luang), Othman Samad (Kadir) and an Indian accountant called Joachim who was a devout Roman Catholic and who travelled in every day from Singapore where he lived.

(9)        I would like on this special occasion to pay tribute to them and in particular to those who were with us in the early days; many of whom are no longer here. I have already mentioned Lau Teo Chin (Ee Wor) and Kwok Chin Luang (Ee Luang) and Othman Samad (Kadir), there are others like Lean Chye Huat, who is not here today due to failing eyesight, and Yusuf Sharif who passed away in his home country India about one and a half years ago and the late Lee Siew Wah, and others who all gave solid and unstinting support and devotion to the Company. It saddens me that in those early difficult years these pioneers did not enjoy significant and substantial rewards but such is the order of things and a most unfortunate aspect of capitalism. However through our Group and employee Foundations, today we are able to help their descendants whenever there is a need to.

(10)      I have learnt that the success of a company must depend on the unity of all its employees. We are all in the same boat rowing against the current and tide and every able person must pull the oars to move the boat forward. Also, we must relentlessly endeavour to maintain and practise the values of integrity and honesty, and eschew and reject greed and arrogance.

(11)      A few words of caution to all businessmen and women. I recall the Chinese saying: shibai nai chenggong zhi mu (failure is the mother of success). But in the last thirty years of my business life, I have come to the conclusion that the reverse phrase is even truer of today's world: chenggong nai shibai zhi mu. Success often breeds failure, because it makes you arrogant, complacent and, therefore, lower your guard.

(12)      The way forward for this world is through capitalism. Even China has come to realise it. But it's equally true that capitalism, if allowed to snowball along unchecked, can in many ways become destructive. Capitalism needs to be inspected under a magnifying glass once a day, a super-magnifying glass once a week, and put through the cleaning machine once a month.
In capitalism, man needs elements of ambition and greed to drive him. But where does ambition end and greed take over? That's why I say that capitalism, if left to its own devices, will snowball along, roll down the hill and cause a lot of damage. So a sound capitalist system requires very strongly led, enlightened, wise governments. That means politician-statesmen willing to sacrifice their lives for the sake of their people. I don't mean politicians who are there for fame, glory and to line their pockets.

(13)      To my mind the two great challenges facing China are the restoration of education in morals and the establishment of a rule of law. You must begin from the root up, imbuing and infusing moral lessons and morality into youth, both at home and from kindergarten and primary school upward through university. Every Chinese needs to accept the principle of rule of law; then you have to train upright judges and lawyers to uphold the legal system.

(14)      Wealth should be used for two main purposes. One: for the generation of greater wealth; in other words, you continue to invest, creating prosperity and jobs in the country. Two: part of your wealth should be applied to the betterment of mankind, either by acts of pure philanthropy or by investment in research and development along the frontiers of science, space, health care and so forth.

405) ISA STILL RELEVANT TO SINGAPORE (HOME AFFAIRS MIN)

SINGAPORE : Singapore's Home Affairs Ministry has said the Internal Security Act (ISA) continues to be relevant and crucial as a measure of last resort for the preservation of national security.

It said this on Friday in response to queries from the media, after Malaysia announced the abolition of the ISA on Thursday.

The Home Affairs Ministry said that Singapore and Malaysia are different, even though the ISA has the same roots for when both countries were British colonies.

It said the respective societies have evolved. Even the Act itself has evolved.

For example, a person arrested under the ISA in Singapore may be held in custody for up to 30 days, after which a Detention or Restriction Order must be issued or else the person must be released unconditionally.

In Malaysia, the period of custody is double - up to 60 days.

In addition, in Singapore, the President can veto the government's decision.

The ministry added that Singapore has used the ISA sparingly. It said no one has ever been detained only for their political beliefs.

The ISA has been used to deal with threats of subversion, racial and religious extremism, espionage and terrorism, and these threats continue to be salient today, the ministry said.

It added that the ISA was used effectively in 2001 to thwart the imminent suicide bombings planned by Al-Qaeda and Jemaah Islamiyah.

Like Malaysia, there have been calls among certain quarters in Singapore to abolish the ISA. They include civil liberty groups and political parties, who argue the law has lost its relevance.

However, one terrorism expert MediaCorp spoke to said it is "foolish" of Malaysia to abolish the ISA.

Dr Rohan Gunaratna, from the International Centre for Political Violence and Research, said: "Today, there are only two countries in Southeast Asia that have been severely threatened by terrorism, but have prevented terrorist attacks. One is Malaysia and the other is Singapore.

"So ISA is an invaluable tool to preventively detain terrorist suspects to investigate and also to confine them. If this important piece of law is taken out of the equation, it will not benefit governments to fight terrorism effectively.

Dr Rohan added that there is a heightened threat of terror in the region now, so it is important to keep the ISA until such threats diminish.

Meanwhile, Singapore's opposition Workers' Party, which had called for the abolition of the ISA in its election manifesto, said that even with such a move, there should be effective measures against terrorism.

In a posting on its Facebook page, it repeated its call for a dedicated anti-terrorism law to make swift arrests and detain suspects without trial.

But these suspects must be afforded real avenues to challenge the legality of their arrests through the courts and an advisory board, said the party.

404) EMEL PILIHAN : TIPS MENJAGA SOLAT SUBUH

TIPS MENJAGA SOLAT SUBUH :

1. Ikhlaskan niat kerana Allah, dan berikanlah hak-hak-Nya
2. Bertekad dan muhasabah diri Anda setiap hari

Angkara tinggalkan solat Subuh (selepas bulan Ramadhan)

402) EMEL PILIHAN : 4 days left -- Palestine: the world's next nation

Amazing! Over 900,000 have signed the petition -- our big delivery to the UN is on Tuesday. Let's get to a million! Forward this email to everyone --

Dear friends,

The Palestinian people are calling on the world to recognize Palestine as a state. Over 120 countries have endorsed the call, but the US and Israel are trying to block it. European leaders are on the fence. In 4 days, the proposal will be presented to the UN General Assembly. If we can persuade Europe to support this non-violent, legitimate bid now, it could spur a dramatic shift towards peace. Click to sign the urgent petition:

In four days the UN General Assembly will meet, and the world has an opportunity to embrace a new proposal that could turn the tide on decades of failed Israeli-Palestinian peace talks: UN recognition of the state of Palestine.

Over 120 nations from the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Latin America have already endorsed this initiative, but Israel's right-wing government and the US are trying to block it. Europe is still undecided. Only a massive public push now could tip this key bloc to vote with the rest of the world for this momentous opportunity to end 40 years of military occupation.

US-led peace initiatives have failed for decades, while Israel has confined Palestinians to small areas, confiscated their lands and blocked their independence. This bold new initiative could be the best opportunity to jump start a resolution of the conflict. We have just 4 days to persuade Europe to endorse this statehood bid, and make clear that citizens across the world support this legitimate, non-violent, diplomatic proposal. Sign the petition and send this to everyone -- let's reach 1 million:

http://www.avaaz.org/en/independence_for_palestine_en/?vl

While the roots of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict are complex, most people on all sides agree that the best path to peace is the creation of two states. But repeated peace processes have been undermined by violence on both sides, extensive Israeli settlement-building in the West Bank, and the humanitarian blockade on Gaza. The Israeli occupation has shrunk and fragmented the territory for a Palestinian state and made daily life a crippling ordeal for the Palestinian people. The UN, World Bank and IMF have all recently announced that Palestinians are ready to run an independent state, but say the main constraint to success is the Israeli occupation. Even the US President has called for an end to settlement expansion and a return to the 1967 borders with mutually agreed land-swaps, but Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has furiously refused to cooperate.

It’s time for a dramatic shift away from a futile peace process and on to a new path for progress. While the Israeli and US governments are calling the Palestinian initiative ‘unilateral’ and dangerous, in fact the world’s nations overwhelmingly support this diplomatic move away from violence. Global recognition of Palestine could crush extremists who argue violence is the only solution, and foster a growing non-violent Palestinian-Israeli movement in step with the democratic momentum across the region. Most importantly, it will rescue a path to a negotiated settlement, allow the Palestinians access to a variety of international institutions that can help advance Palestinian freedom, and send a clear signal to Israel’s pro-settler government that the world will no longer accept their impunity and intransigence.

For too long, Israel has undermined the hope for a Palestinian state. For too long, the US has appeased them, and for too long Europe has hidden behind the US. Right now, Europe is on the fence about Palestinian statehood. We have just 4 days to reach 1 million. Let’s appeal to Europe's leaders to stand on the right side of history and support a Palestinian declaration of freedom and independence, with overwhelming support, and financial aid. Palestinian statehood will not bring a resolution to this intractable conflict overnight, but UN recognition will change the dynamics and will begin to unlock the door towards freedom and peace. Across Palestine, people are preparing, with hope and expectation, to reclaim a freedom their generation has never known. Let's stand with them and push our leaders to do the same, as they have stood with the people of Egypt, Syria and Libya.

With hope and determination,

Alice, Ricken, Stephanie, Morgan, Pascal, Rewan and the entire Avaaz team

401) EMEL PILIHAN: Trapped In Lift ??? follow this..Serious!

( Gambar sebagai hiasan)

Dear All,

This is a very important and informative email .

What to do when you are trapped in a lift ???

We never know when and where accidents will happen to us OR people around us.  Read on and hope this piece of information may help any of us when things do happen to yourself, our friends and our loved ones.

One day, while in a lift, it suddenly broke down and it was falling from level 13 at a fast speed.

Fortunately, I remembered watching a TV program that taught  you must quickly press all the buttons for all the levels.

Finally, the lift stopped at the 5th level.

When you are facing life and death situations, whatever decisions or actions you make decides your survival.

If you are caught in a lift  breakdown, first thought in mind may be 'waiting to die'...

But after reading below, things will definitely be different the next time you are caught in a lift.

First  - Quickly press all the different levels of buttons in the lift. When the emergency electricity supply is being activated, it will stop the lift from falling further.

Second - Hold on tight to the handle (if there is any).. It is to support your position and prevent you from falling or getting hurt

when you lost your balance.

Third - Lean your back and head against the wall forming a straight line. Leaning against the wall is to use it as a support for your back/spine as protection.

Fourth - Bend your knees

Ligament is a flexible, connective tissue.  Thus, the impact of fractured bones will be minimised  during fall.

For everyone, kindly do share  this piece of information with your near and dear ones !!

399) BERITA PILIHAN : Move by telcos to impose 6% tax on prepaid lines comes under fire

KUALA LUMPUR: Calling it difficult to accept, the Prime Minister has joined in the chorus of people against the move by telcos to impose 6% service tax on prepaid mobile phone users.

Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the move comes at a time when the Government was trying to ease the burden of the rakyat’s who are already hit by the rise in living costs.

He added the move was not approved by the Finance Ministry as the decision to impose taxes was taken by the telcos themselves.

“I have received many reactions and feedback from the people,” he told reporters yesterday after launching Maybank’s new corporate logo.

The move to impose the service tax on consumers is very unpopular and difficult to accept.”

MCA Youth chief Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong said the service tax was a huge burden to the people. He added mobile phones were an essential item to consumers and played a major role in the daily life with most of the prepaid users coming from the lower-income group.

It was reported that from Sept 15 onwards, prepaid users and those purchasing starter kits would need to pay an extra 6% as telcos agreed they would no longer absorb the service tax, which was introduced in 1998.

Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin described the decision as “unreasonable”.

“Boss @NajibRazak, the decision to impose tax on prepaid users is unreasonable and it would burden the rakyat. I oppose it. Please review it,” he tweeted.

PKR vice-president Tian Chua said the Government must intervene immediately to help low-income earners.
He also noted that prepaid plans were unfair to users by design as users paid for their usage up front.
Consumer groups were also up in arms over the increase, which they have lambasted as unfair.

Consumers Association of Penang president S.M. Mohamed Idris called on the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to stall the move.

He added mobile phone prepaid users faced the brunt of unfair terms and conditions imposed on them, especially when the balance in their account was forfeited when they did not reload within the validity period.
He suggested that a prepaid number should have lifetime validity and be activated at the customers convenience.

Muslim Consumers Association Malaysia activist Datuk Nadzim Johan said the increase was unfair and ill-timed when consumers were tightening their belts over the increasing cost of other essential goods.
Fomca secretary-general Muhammad Sha’ani Abdullah said the telcos were already pocketing extra from their customers with their “call block” formula.

“If a telco charges RM0.30 per minute with 30 seconds per block, this means that you pay RM0.15 whether you use the phone for only 10 seconds or 30 seconds,” he said.

“This means the telcos are already making money from the unused seconds. Consumers have already been over-paying for years.”
